Locked Out in the Rain
Hello friends!
The time is just flying by! I cannot believe another week has come and gone!
This week, we had exchanges with the Santiago sisters!
I was pretty nervous for my first exchange, but I was also super excited. It was not planned, but we started our exchanges with a bit of an adventure…
When they first got here, it started pouring rain! We rushed to our apartment to seek cover from the rain. Luckily, our apartment has a covered porch, so we took shelter while we fumbled to find our keys. We soon realized that we did not have the keys! And we could not get a hold of the other sisters who had the key as well. We even tried opening the window to reach around to the door, but the windows had bars on them. Anyway…, we could not get into our apartment! Finally, the other sisters came home, but their key would not work! Finally, we unscrewed the bars on the window, climbed in, and unlocked the door.
It was quite an adventure and not at all how I was planning on starting exchanges, but it was a great time!
Exchanges were a cool experience. I learned a lot from Sister Liper. She is a great missionary and is very familiar with the Preach My Gospel manual.
One miracle that we experienced on exchanges happened at the very end of the night. It was time for us to start going home, but because we were so close to our apartment, I asked Sister Liper how she would feel if we went finding for half an hour before going home. She was excited for more work! So of course, we went finding. It was perfect!
Most of the time we don’t go finding at night because people are spending time with family or resting, and they do not want to talk to us. But we met two people that night. The second door we knocked, the people answered the door and ushered us into their house. They said that missionaries had always walked by, but no one had stopped to talk to them. They told us they wanted to learn more and invited us to come back!
It was such a miracle because we did something we don’t normally do, but it showed me that as we act in faith, we will see miracles. God will direct us to the people who are ready!
I loved exchanges, but I was thrilled to be companions with Sister Regorosa again the next day…she is just the best!
-We had lots of
friends come to church!
-We were able to
find lots of new people!
-We were able to
teach a lot of people about Jesus Christ!
-We were happy and
worked our hardest!
Something that I have been thinking about a lot this week is a phrase that is used over and over again in the Book of Mormon: if you keep the commandments, you will be blessed. Nephi knew this promise to be true and in response, he said:
When we first got to this area, I was a little overwhelmed…it was a bit of a mess. But as my companion and I have tried to be obedient and rely on the Lord, we have been so blessed. I know that God is so aware of us.
God gives us commandments to help us. They are not restrictions to keep us from being happy but are the way to happiness. God loves us so much—that is why we have commandments. I testify that as we keep the commandments of God, He will pour out blessings on us.
I know that God is so good! I know that He wants what is best for each of us. I know that His commandments are truly the evidence of his love. We show our love for him as we follow them.
I hope you all have another great week! Please pray for our friends June and Lerma!
The church is true,
God loves you!
Be happy, Be brave,
Be smart,
Love,
Sister Miller
