Hospital Visits and Miracle Meetings

Hello, friends! I hope you all had another great week! We definitely had a lot of adventures over here in the Philippines.

First, I got the wonderful pleasure of visiting yet another Philippine hospital. I had a goal to not go to the hospital at all on my mission and in the last month, I have now visited twice!

A couple of weeks ago, my toe started hurting. Sister Regorosa and I played “Doctor” and it worked pretty well! It stopped hurting and I thought I was good to go. But then a week later, it started hurting again…and a week later again…so we decided that maybe it was a problem. Sure enough, Sister Cobing sent us to the doctor for a check-up this week!

It was a grand adventure. Unfortunately, this hospital did not have air conditioning, so we did our studies in the heat. Fortunately, however, we got the help that we needed for my toe, and I got some medicine! Hopefully it will continue to get better (but it is nothing to worry about)!

Once we got the medical concerns all cleared up, we were able to get to work!

This week we had exchanges! I got to be companions with Sister Tapar. She is fun, loud, and hard-working. I loved learning from her. It was fun to see a new style of doing missionary work and be able to grow as a missionary.

Outside of exchanges and hospital visits, we were able to see so many miracles. I love working as a missionary and seeing all of the wonderful miracles that God has in store for us!

Our first miracle was meeting Ann.

A little over a month ago, Sister Regorosa and I were knocking on doors, and we met Ann. She was really receptive to our message, but when we tried to get a return appointment, she said that she only had one day off from work a month and she didn’t know when her next one would be. We were a little disappointed, but we did not think much of it.

If any of you remember my last email, last week, we were trying to invite everyone to church. Well, as we were doing this, we met Ann’s husband! We told him that we had met Ann a month ago, but of course that she had work so we never really got to teach her. He told us that she had just quit her job and was now available every day! We set a return appointment for that Sunday.

This week we had the opportunity to visit Ann multiple times. She told us in one of these visits that she had a dream that she entered a church that she had never been to before. After she woke up, she had the feeling she needed to go to this church. She told us she thinks this church is our church. She was so excited to come to church this week, but her ride fell through. However, as we visited with her she told us that she could not wait for next week and her husband would come too!

I am so happy. It was truly a miracle that we were able to meet her husband, and her desire to learn about the gospel is so strong. I cannot wait to continue helping her come closer to Christ.

Our next miracle happened with some of our new friends, Maureen and Maricel. We met them a few weeks ago and they came to church after the first lesson! When we taught them the word of wisdom, they accepted it immediately. They are so ready for the gospel. This week, we were able to extend baptism to them both! They both accepted and are ready to make a covenant with God.

We also experienced many miracles as our friends came to church this week. At first, when church started, hardly anyone was there. I was a little bit disappointed because a lot of our friends said they would come, but hardly any of them were there. However, as the meeting started, people started trickling in! Unfortunately, June and Lerma, two of our friends who promised that they would come, were nowhere in sight! I was heartbroken. But just as the first speaker got up to speak, June and Lerma walked in! I was beaming! It was amazing to see them come to church again and I am so grateful that they made it. They are getting ready for their baptism next month so please pray for them!

God is truly preparing people to accept the gospel here in Ramon. I feel so lucky to be assigned here at this time to help God further His work.

For my spiritual thought, I wanted to share a portion from one of my favorite talks:

“The First Great Commandment” by Elder Holland

https://www.churchofjesuschrist.org/study/general-conference/2012/10/the-first-great-commandment?lang=eng

In it, he says:

“In short, we have a life of devoted discipleship to give in demonstrating our love of the Lord. We can’t quit and we can’t go back”

This whole talk is about loving God. When we love the Lord with all our might, it means that we serve Him until the end. I love this. It made me think about what I am doing now as a missionary and how I want to be changed by my mission. I thought about how I could be a more dedicated disciple of Christ and a more dedicated missionary. I have so many wonderful things to say about this talk, but I cannot fit it all in this email. I want to invite all of you to read this talk. It is such a good one. Even if you just listen to it while you are at work, I know that it will bless you as it has touched me.

I know this church is true and I know that God loves us all! I know that as we are more dedicated disciples of Christ, we see the blessings that God has in store for us.

I hope you all have another great week!

The Church is true. God loves you.

Be happy, Be brave, Be smart,

Love,

Sister Miller
